Keywords: Equipment
Japanese term for straight grain of a wooden goban. The board is cut from a log to produce straight grain across the top of the board with the grain running from one player to the other. This is achieved by cutting the board from one side of the log. (The log must be wide enough to provide two boards from the sapwood. The heartwood is not used for the board.)
