Martin Stiassny, born in 1943, was elected EGF president in 2009. He is most experienced organizer of EGCs: Königswinter 1979, Hamburg 1988, Straussberg (near Berlin) 2000 and Leksand 2008, where he was inspirator and co-organizer.
As a way to celebrate his birthday near his Summer residence in Leksand in Sweden, he organized Summer Schools there. In 2007, Yoon Young-sun 5P had been main teacher there. Over the years his helpers gathered lots of experience. So the Leksand EGC in 2008 went very smoothly under the lead of Leif Pettersson.
Stiassny had studied Mathematics in West-Berlin in the 1960's. When his advisor Prof. Karl Peter Grotemeyer became founding rector of the new University in Bielefeld (West Germany), Martin moved with him to Bielefeld. In their first years in Bielefeld, Stiassny and Grotemeyer lived together in a commune ("WG" = "Wohn-Gemeinsschaft" in German). Martin became the first student to complete his diploma thesis in Mathematics in Bielefeld.
