B1 is a double threat

Example taken from [ext] British Go Journal No. 92, Autumn 1993, Page 4.

B1 is a double threat, since a and b are miai for the life of the long Black chain.

However...

Kirk: But after the continuation through 4, white lives. If we can also kill the white group here, then black will win the game for sure...

[Diagram]
Can we kill white?

Kirk: If it works, it would be better to play B1 here to kill white.

[Diagram]
Continuation trying to kill white

Kirk: It seems black can win this capturing race by one move. But white has another move at 7...

[Diagram]
White 1 here instead of 7

Kirk: Can white make anything out of this?

[Diagram]
White tries his hardest to...

Kirk: Best I can see...

[Diagram]
...make a ko.

Kirk: ...white gets a ko. 7 at 3. But black has no threat large enough and loses the game. I guess the answer at the top is correct, but it sure took a lot of analysis...
