The Zhongguo Qiyuan maintains an annual promotion tournament, while allowing special promotions for outstanding results:

Promotion to 9 dan

• Win an international title
• Get two international title runners-up

Promotion to 7 dan

• Win China Korea Tengen
• Win China Korea New Star
• Win Japan China Agon Cup

Promotion to 6 dan

• Win an international woman title (slow match)

Promotion to 5 dan

• Win an international woman title (blitz match)

Promotion to 1 dan

• Get the first three of National Women Individual
