Solution

[Diagram]
Ko

After W1, B2 can make ko. W3 threatens a snapback as in the previous Exercise. Usually this is the best way for White.

Alternative ko

W3 here is usually inferior because it adds a point of territory to Black if he wins the ko. On the other hand, the move has the advantage of not reducing liberties of the eyeless White wall.

White resolves the ko

In this case, White resolves the ko in an unusual way with W7. Now if Black takes the ko, White captures the black+circle stones. It would be a mistake for White to fill the ko, because that just leads to another ko.

Failure

Black lives

If W1 here, then B2 lives as per rectangular six. Now a and b are miai for life.
