Attach-staircase pattern

When Black follows up B1 with B3, making a staircase pattern supported by the initial stone, this is quite a dangerous way to play, compared with attach-extend. There are not so many situations in which it is a good option.

Cutting points

In most cases Black can't play this way, because White makes a ponnuki with W3 and will be very happy just to connect in reply to B4. Black's three cutting points are hard to manage, while White has no problems.

A good enough reason ...White 8 at 1

There must be a good reason for playing into this shape. For example, this fragment of a Korean professional game. Black has a big framework to the right, and can play B9 after W8 connects as a play that builds it up into the centre. There is now a feeling that white+circle isn't ideally placed, too.
