New players usually fail to notice that building bases on the edges results in encirclement, and opponents' advantages of power projected from the wall (e.g., influence). One of the points I make in introducing basics to new players is that "corners, sides, and middle" is a rote formula useful to new players starting to the learn the counter-intuitive game. New players need every break they can get. But... it is only a single principal and not the answer. Thus, more experienced players eventually depart from the rote formula to serve other more pressing purposes. Regards to All, OwyheeMud? 040913
