Does anyone have a problem with using MDOS (Mean Defeated Opponent's Score) - because this is an alternative solution. Depending on the origin, SODOS can give different results. We have seen this when looking at European and UK style tournaments. The European style seems to favour players with more wins in total, while the UK style may only sometimes do so. The MDOS would not be affected by the origin/number of wins. It would simply look at the average 'performance strength' of the opponents.

This is possible. The same can be done with SOS, making it MOS, which has the advantage that it works just fine when rounds have been missed by players.

C0nfuseki: IS there a single page discussing the strengths and weaknesses of various systems of using different tournament systems and rules resolutions? I was going to make a new page "Tournament Design Puzzles", but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't writing unnecessary information. MDOS could be a useful tool to solve a tournament issue under certain circumstances. I consider that it would be fantastic if this (and other) theories could be tested by solving various puzzles/problems with example mocked up tournament data.

Has this already been done? (There is an entire tournament section unto itself) With all this talk about theories of scoring and tie-breakers, it would be nice to see how you could resolve a hypothetical problem fairly.

There are plenty of those kind of pages, and the discussion typically ranges from somewhat heated to edit war to outright flame war.

Sensei's has a tournament section at SenseisTournamentLibrary. I don't know if it would be a good place for that. It doesn't seem to be edited frequently. I would like to believe that having practical examples and conditions would lead to an improvement in tournament condition discussions, but I think it is more likely to start more aggressive discussion and flaming.

Still, if you think it might help, go ahead?. I'm interested.
