hi robert, how is this book printed? (brett und stein prints via books on demand but their books still have an isbn.) i guess it is sort of handicap to not have an isbn at all. will it still be available via the usual distributors? cheers tapir.
I am the publisher. The first print run is done by a local BOD service, which produces the printing quality of your average English language Go book. To make it possible that the book becomes available (hopefully) at the European Go Congress, I am not using an ISBN so far. An ISBN would have delayed publication by weeks or months since I would have had to find out how to do it or - in case of Books on Demand - let them process it for 4 to 6 weeks anyway. Yes, no ISBN is a sort of disadvantage but OTOH it means that the printing costs are smaller.
After the congress, the book can be ordered directly from my webpage (price + postage, payment: international money order or PayPal?) everywhere in the world. Also I will be distributing it to every Go book retailer who is interested and with whom an agreement on the terms can be achieved. So far Peter Zandveld's Schaak en Go Winkel het Paard (Amsterdam) is about to purchase a lot and will be offering it during the European congress in his book shop (if I will have gotten the book in time, of course). Other retailers in Germany and the USA have indicated principle interest. With them and retailers in other countries / continents, I will try to set up relations right after the congress. Add to that the typical duration of surface parcel shipping to overseas (4 to 10 weeks, starting maybe one or a few weeks after the congress) and you get an idea about the timing of availability in other continents. Of course, you might join those ordering directly from me and pay for the postage of a single book, if you should not want to wait that long.
