Chris Hayashida: This page is a mess. I think we need to edit it. I suggest the following heading:

• Windows 9x/Me

• Java 1.4 and earlier
• Java 1.5

• Windows 2000/XP

• Java 1.4 and earlier
• Java 1.5

• Mac OS X

• Works out of the box with 10.4. Possibly with older ones also.

• Linux

• Java 1.4 and earlier
• Java 1.5

There's a change in how Java configures its fonts between 1.4 and 1.5. I'm not exactly sure when the changes were made, as I didn't use many of the later 1.4 builds, but I would assume it changed along with the version number.

I haven't installed Java on Linux in a while, so I might leave that to someone else as well. I'm not sure if we should split Linux into several distros (i.e., instructions for Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.)
