I find this solution page somewhat confusing. I wonder, whether I *really* understood the solution. What I believe to understand is, that the lowest white stone on the left prevents escape on the first line on the left, so that this problem is a variation of the basic principles in beginner exercise 12.

So, any variation of white's attempt to kill would be a variation of black's in beginner exercise 12, the difference being that the opponent trying to live (here: black) can extend to one side, gaining enough space for a miai.

Right? Or did I miss something? Please excuse my akward question. For me as an absolute beginner, even those simple exercises run the risk that I unsatisfyingly go at them by random trial and error, so I try to reduce the complexity by trying to grasp them in terms of what I believed to have already learned.
