which important tournament? we should state which ones (a couple would be fine, preferably the most important) with the year , if not the full date, of the tournament.

Finnish (optional qualifier goes here) Championship tournaments are typically in the form of a round-robin tournament, and often use the rematch as the tie breaker. Maybe you can search for other tournaments?

The Dutch Championship is Swiss, using a playoff (best of three) when two players (or more) players end in first place with the same number of points, eg:

German Championships can have playoffs for first or second place, but "playoff" is a bit more general than "rematch".

In major Japanese titles like the Meijin and Honinbo, the challenger is decided in a round-robin league. In case of a tie, a play-off between the tied players is played to decide the challenger.
