Um, *, {1|-1} and several other games mentioned on this page aren't actually surreal numbers, because they don't satisfy the condition every member of L is less than every member of R, right?

Good point. As far as I know, the surreal numbers are the subclass of combinatorial games where all members of the left set are less than all members of the right set.

Hmmm. It seems like the original author got into talking about the birthdays of games in general. I suppose that material could be rewritten or moved.
