Wikipedia WikiProject Go
Charles The Wikipedia WikiProject Go is now started at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Go.
Go articles on the English Wikipedia have gradually been building up, and can be reviewed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Go_(game) . Since the WP software does not have the facilities for diagrams available here, it has in the past not been very obvious how to put large quantities of technical go content there. One of the first issues the Project will have to address, is how best to make diagrams available. People here might be able to comment on that.
In the longer term, I'm sure that some sort of migration of content from SL to WP will be discussed. Nothing can simply be copied: the licence position doesn't allow that. Further the gradual tightening of citation requirements on WP is a limitation that now has to be taken quite seriously. Perhaps there can be a discussion on mutual hyperlinking, and which particular areas are most suitable for WP articles.
Blake: Most of SL's content is aimed at being a reference point for players, or at improving one's game. This doesn't seem suitable for Wikipedia at all. I would suggest that outside a few pages about notable historical events, we shouldn't bother with Wikipedia much; it seems cumbersome and weighted down by politics. For example, the stated policy is to write Asian names surname-last, which is confusing and ridiculous. If we try to make game-oriented pages about joseki and the like, we will be shot down by notability guidelines and "citation needed" tags.
