Victor Bogdanov is a strong Russian player. He was 6 dan until 2003, when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while playing at the Ing memorial in Amsterdam. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where immediate surgery saved his life. He has lessened control of the right half of his body, forcing him to use a stick to walk and to use his left hand when playing go, but is otherwise fine. His level of play also suffered, but he is still 5 dan.
