Kyu Exercise 25 / Solution

Sub-page of KyuExercise25

"Belly attachment" B1 leaves White no way to link up, reduces liberties and threatens to destroy the eye in the corner.

Continuation I

If White tries to link up with W2, she is caught in a connect-and-die.

Continuation II

If White tries the double purpose play W2, then the atari at B3 prevents the first line connection in sente. If White continues at one of the a, then Black at one of the b keeps ahead in the semeai between the two two-stone groups.

Continuation III

After W2 at one of the a, B3 connects. If W4, then B5 removes the second eye.

B1 either does not prevent the first line connection (B3 at one of the a), or does loose the semeai between the two two-stone groups (B3 at b).
