Kyu Creed

    Keywords: Humour

I thought it would be interesting / funny to create a Kyu Creed similar to the famous [ext] rifle creed of the USMC. Just floating the trial balloon at the moment; I will incorporate suggestions as they come in. As long as the flavor of it is consistent, I think more verses would be great. Maybe one for each principle that a newbie kyu ought to master (ladder, net, throwin, snapback, ...). I changed to plural because a single stone isn't quite correct, methinks.

These are my stones. There are many like them, but these are mine.

My stones are my best friend. They are my life. I must master them as I must master my life.

My stones, without me, are useless. Without my stones, I am useless. I must place my stones true. I must play better than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must capture him before he captures me. I will ...

My stones and myself know that what counts in this war is not the single stones we play, the noise of our striking the goban, nor the smoke we make (hmmm). We know that it is the points that count. We will score ...

My stones are human, even as I, because they are my life. Thus, I will learn them as a brother. I will learn their weaknesses, their strengths, their territory, their liberties, their connections and their influence. I will ever guard them against the ravages of reduction and capture as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my stones clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will ...

I swear this creed. My stones and myself are the defenders of my territory. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my game.

So be it, until victory is ours and there is no enemy, but peace!!
