EGC 2009

The European Go Congress of 2009 (formally the Zhuyeqing Tea 53rd European Go Congress) was held from July 25th to August 8th in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands, organized by the Groningen Go Club.

The Netherlands is an important Go-playing country in Europe with many enthusiastic Go players, and Groningen currently has a blooming Go club.

Tournament winner is Kim Eunkuk? (by SOS tie-breakers against Hwang In-seong, Kim Joon Sang?, Oh Chi-Min all with 8 wins out of 10). European champion is Alexandre Dinerchtein (place 6, again by SOS tie-breakers against Catalin Taranu, Mero Csaba and Cristian Pop all with 7 wins out of 10). Jun Sang-Youn who was undefeated after the first week lost in the second against Hwang In-seong, Dinerchtein and Taranu and finished in the fifth place.

Oh Chi-Min won the rapid tournament without loss.
