The European Go Congress of 2009 (formally the Zhuyeqing Tea 53rd European Go Congress) was held from July 25th to August 8th in the city of [ext] Groningen in the Netherlands, organized by the Groningen Go Club.

The Netherlands is an important Go-playing country in Europe with many enthusiastic Go players, and Groningen currently has a blooming Go club.

Tournament winner is Kim Eunkuk? (by SOS tie-breakers against Hwang In-seong, Kim Joon Sang?, Oh Chi-Min all with 8 wins out of 10). European champion is Alexandre Dinerchtein (place 6, again by SOS tie-breakers against Catalin Taranu, Mero Csaba and Cristian Pop all with 7 wins out of 10). Jun Sang-Youn who was undefeated after the first week lost in the second against Hwang In-seong, Dinerchtein and Taranu and finished in the fifth place.

Oh Chi-Min won the rapid tournament without loss.
