The Samsung cup prelims will probably also show up a number of amateur wins over pros.

One of Jansteen's European tournament writeups implied Rob van Zeijst a success in the Samsung, but I can't find any record of him winning. That being said, I do have a recollection of him beating a pro in another major world championship. I'll keep digging.

In general, the best sources of amateur wins are likely to come from Europeans because North America has generally sent professionals (e.g. Jujo & Naiwei) as representatives.

Actually, I am more referring to Korean amateurs beating their pro counterparts in the early rounds of the Samsung Cup. IIRC, there were a few such incidents in last year's tournament.

Good point. There is also a tournament in Japan (possibly Acom cup?) that is open to both amateurs and pros.
