What are the four go-related Unicode symbols used for? I can't find any information. They are only briefly mentioned in the main Unicode documents. They have one or two dots inside, why? Two of the symbols are white and two are black, which leads me to think that they designate either players or stones. I've seen the one-dot versions used as "eyes" on Unicode art emojis. It's possible that some other, more general circle characters are supposed to be used as zero-dot variants.
Characters and symbols end up in Unicode – in principle – only if they have previously been encoded in some other standard or if there otherwise exists a strong proof of existing usage in real-world communication.
