How many stones is practical for a light DIY set, or as you lose pieces from a full set? The question is for 9x9; all sizes would be interesting. Territory counting.
A normal set of stones for a 19x19 board has 180 stones per colour plus a few extra for spares. These stones can fill the board except for one intersection. For a 9x9 board 40 stones per colour should suffice.
Allthough on a 9x9 board you will run in to problems with lack of stones when some go missing more quickly than on a full sized board. That's because on a regular board there will typically be around 100 empty points at the end of a game but on a 9x9 it will generally be closer to 20.
