I was curious as to the reason the Chinese sometimes refer to it by "Dongpo" (the name of a famous writer.) I was referred to this.

tl;dr: Dongpo was awesome at every courtly grace except weiqi, and finally started using these tactics in order to not be crushed by his son. Story is acknowledged to be possibly apocryphal; they were playing weiqi differently then anyway.
