hi velobici,
i remember the context of that page and you probably were in a hurry. but maybe it is time to correct the numbers you give there? i am pretty sure that you obtained them by running a search on your local copy of the nihon ki-in page for the ranks and female/male, which just doesn't account for the deceased and retired players.
cheers tapir
The page reflects dan ranks awarded by the Nihon Ki-in as maintained by the Nihon Ki-in without any modification. The page notes (in bold) that the numbers include several deceased players. Its not stated definatively because I don't know all the players; I cannot say for certain that all deceased Nihon Ki-in ranked players are included.
I don't maintain a copy of my own of the Nihon Ki-in pages. This page reflects what the Nihon Ki-in lists on its site. Presumably, the same policy will be used for all players as they retire or die. Assuming that the policy will be enforced equally on all, and that all players, both male and female, retire or die, the page reflects dan ranks awarded by the Nihon Ki-in.
If you would like to supplement this material with a count of active male and active female players, I certainly would not object provided that the date was included. Something like "as of such-and-such-a-date there were xx active 9 dans of whom yy were male and zz are female". Doing so will present a smaller male to female ratio than the male female ratio currently presented.
Alternatively, an active player's dan rank table could be presented with date...it will change each year and each time a new player wins a title.
We try to keep track of changes at LatestPromotions. And you're right, it probably won't help if there are a dozen other pages which need to be updated with every rank change.
Agreed, it probably won't help if there are a dozen other pages which need to be updated with every rank change. We can drive ourselves crazy if we create too many pages that need regular updating. Its one reason to add "as of ## Month ####" to pages that we update only occasionally.
