Then why persist? It appears that you have not been able to muster a credible claim of discrimination against women in Go as opposed to the considerable affirmative action....at least eight tournaments in which the winner is guaranteed to be a woman.

actually i wrote an entry first, removed it, wrote only the short note, thought about just leaving it as it is and finally hit the save button anyway.

nobody ever claimed women only tournaments are discrimination against women. so why do you bring this up? you made an entry about the percentage of women making a bachelor degree... how is the percentage in professors? (here it is 50% vs. 12%) in between there is arguably little open discrimination, just a lot of silent one and a lot of "choices". however the limited choices offered tend to offer better chances for men to follow academic carreers. and how easily you dismissed the lack of female role models in hikaru no go when even a female professional player commented on that (cho hye yeon on her weblog). why do you obsessed about the female only qualification tournament won by fujisawa rina and not about the regional qualification tournaments (with less competition as well)? and if the percentage of top players is somehow related to the composition of the total player base shouldn't [ext] this disturb you? isn't that discrimination in go? isn't often a single incidence like this reason enough for children to change the hobby - especially if they are just starting out and other more "female" hobbies available? did you ever notice how condescendingly breakfast writes about female players? ("About her Go style: I think, it's typical for all girls. She prefers peaceful games and afraid of beeing attacked/killed.")

kind regards tapir

could you select a single item to discuss? each time i have tried to respond to one of your assertions, you dismiss that assertion I dont care about Lance Armstrong! and make a number of other assertions. please select one of your assertions. we can discuss, perhaps come to resolution, and then move the next point.

please comment on hikaru no go:

how are female players depicted in the manga/anime? are there any role models for girls there? isn't go depicted as a male enterprise - even if sai corrects the worst misconceptions of hikaru?

ps you didn't even notice the whole paragraph i wrote about that topic even after starting with "i don't care about lance armstrong."

Commenting on Hikaru no Go....discussing discrimination in go based upon a comic book. This the what is important to you?

  • There are few female players.
  • Akari starts playing because of Hikaru.
  • Akari and the other girl (not volleyball girl) are both rather giggly.
  • The volleyball girl is represented as a quite serious player.
  • Nase is serious, wavers for one weekend to go ice skating and then becomes a model of perseverance in pursuing excellence in play. Her intensity when playing in the adult go salon is represented quite positively. She is not the only role model, but certainly a role model.
  • The only professional that appears in every episode, the role model of the two students is a women.
  • The female student is presented as more serious than the male student.
  • Umezawa Yukari is the role model.

Its been about a week. Are we done here? Hikaru is the sum total of what you wanted to discuss?
