I would prefer rated - I think a) people tend to play more competitively, which makes for more exciting games (for me at least), and b) any games that help maintain a rating system allow for more accurate ranking, handicapping, and seeding.

I really dont care much about that. If both players want the games to be unrated, they will be unrated.

They should be rated by default. If somebody doesnt want it to be rated, he should tell his opponent. If they cant decide, they tell me and I trow a dice :)
