Why did you (hnishy) remove the sections on non-finalist representatives and notable amateurs?
I don't understand what you mean by "delete self promotion by Waseda alumni". You added all that information yourself.
The article had many mistakes and was very far from complete. Actually, Mukai Chiaki was a winner and Jo Bunen was not a winner. Notable winners section was in "Children's Meijin" page before merging by me and included only barely notable players. Excessive self promotion should be deleted, it's a waste of time for the general reader.
Ah, now I remember that it was added by Weiqi.
Well, I think that information should be returned to the article, since it's relevant and, as far as I can tell, there's no particular reason not to include it. How do references to players who have participated in the event worsen the page? I really doubt that any reader will be mourning the loss of the few seconds he might have taken to glance over some names, that could be interesting and useful to others.
And I still don't get why you're calling it "self promotion" -- are you trying to insinuate that Waseda University graduates have edited?
I may be wrong to assume they were added by Waseda people. Anyway, you can mention a player only after mentioning all others more notable than him/her. It's common sense I believe. How could they (or you?) list amateurs before Takao Shinji, who was a runner-up?
Ooops, forgot to log-in. The above reply is by hnishy.
I do believe that Sensei Library policy is to not remove any info if its factually correct and enough related and important to go. It would be ofc good to have all important info before not so much, but if Waseda ppl add info about them, its OK (at least thats what i think). There is always a chance that missing info will be provided by someone else.
One of the names I deleted is Sasako Risa. She doesn't appear even in the Japanese Wikipedia article which lists 100+ names. The gap between pros and Sasako is so big that the chance of it filled by someone is practically nil. Deletion was the only way to correct the situation, so unfair and disrespectful to other more notable players.
I don't have a strong opinion on this specific page, but I want to remind people that we're not Wikipedia, and I don't think we've got a strong policy either way on "notability" or "balance". Please use common sense :-)
