About the Wandering Go Club

The Wandering Go club got its name from the early days of its existance. In the early days, back in 2007, the club started as a boys-night-out for myself, Jeff and his dad Kurtis. At the time, I ran a struggling little Go club at the Domonkas Public Library in Sheffield Lake every Saturday afternoon. Kurtis and Jeff were regulars, and we found ourselves looking for more opportunities to play. Since Saturday evenings were convenient, we decided to head out and play a few times in the Chess Commons area of Crocker Park in Westlake. From there, we met a few others, including Brian and Eric, and meeting out had become a regular thing. Unfortunately, we still didn't have a proper venue. This meant that we had to hunt for a new spot almost every weekend. We found refuge in restaurants, coffee shops, and late-night diners. Several became regular haunts, and and one or two politely asked us not to come back (haha). After a time, we found a home in the cafe of the Borders bookstore in the Promenade Plaza. There we managed to convert Karen, who worked for Borders over to the Dark side, as well as to recruit a few permanent faces, and introduce Go to countless people over the few years we were there. Unfortunately life happens, and Borders is no more. But the Wandering Go Club is strong, and now that we have found the Caribou, our future looks a lot more promising than the ladder that Michael caught me in last week!
