Tom Rose. Born 1955. Currently living in Coppull near Chorley, Lancashire, England.

Trained as biologist and mathematician, but most of professional life spent as a programmer and IT consultant

Play and enjoy both Go and Chess.

Less experience of Go. Current rating EGF 1532, 5k. Highest ever 1685 and 4kyu in 2001. Currently almost inactive. No regular practice and only one tournament a year.

Best ever standard at chess between years 1980 and 1990 with average rating in range 185 to 190 BCF (equivalent to approximately 2100 +/- 50 FIDE). Stopped playing for several years while I concentrated on Go. Started again a couple of years ago. Present rating (2005/6) ECF 150, FIDE (Elo) 1978. Working hard on getting back to a reasonable standard.

Wide-ranging interests in philosophy, history, sciences. Professional standard piano player and keen swimmer.
