Basics

[Diagram]
The 4 immediate neighbours

The move considered is black. The immediate neighbours are called S(outh), W(est), N(orth) and E(ast). More distant neighbours are labelled by the steps between the move itself and the neighbour, such as NE, SSW or EE. The four diagonals are called NE, NW, SW and SE.

Symmetrical variants

Symmetrical variants are displayed as follows. (The rules are listed in order of priority):

  1. If there is one (or) more white stones, then it (or one of them) is displayed South.
  2. If there are two adjacent white stones, then the other is displayed East.
  3. If there is one (or) more black stones, then it (or one of them) is displayed West.
  4. If there are two adjacent black stones, then the other is displayed North.

Subclasses

Subclasses are obtained from a class or subclass by adding more context information. They are marked with a bullet.

Wording

If several Spightonians map to the same term, that term appears with the indefinite article as in "Carve = a cut".

In order to illustrate the meaning of a term, this list provides kanji whenever available, even when a term is not usually written in kanji anymore.
