Nogami Akira


Nogami Akira (野上 彰, 1909-1967) was a Japanese poet, translator and Go journalist. Amateur 5 dan (6 dan posthumously) and Honorary Member of the American Go Association. His real name was Fujimoto Noboru (藤本 登).

Editor in Chief of Igo Shunju magazine from its inception in 1937, then of Igo Club magazine from 1940 to 1943. He authored some Go books in the 1950s and 60s.

His translations include novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, children's books by Andrew Lang (helped by Kawabata Yasunari), and Bob Dylan's song "Blowin' in the Wind".
