Iwamoto Tournament

Tournament created in honor of Iwamoto Kaoru, sponsored by the [ext] Chile National Go Association and the Argentina Go Association.

It is played on KGS on 19x19 Boards, with no handicap and 6.5 point komi.

The players are divided into categories by their rank, and will play 8 Swiss rounds with the others in their category.

After the end of the tournament, the champion in the highest-ranked category will play a simultaneous game with the champions of the other categories.

The 1st edition had over 150 participants from various countries around the world.

The 2nd edition had over 300 participants. In this edition a prize by country was introduced. The winner was Finland, followed by France and Germany. The winners of the individual categories were: Category 1: Fernando Aguilar (Argentina); Category 2: Per Kannengießer (Germany); Category 3: Kivanç Doganay (Turkey); Category 4: Steve Fung (Canada); Category 5: Toni Nisumaa (Finland); Category 6: Manuel Rodríguez Diez (Spain).

The [ext] 3d edition had 522 participants. The country cup winner was U.S.A, followed by Finland.

  • In Category 2, 1st place: Miksas from Russia; 2nd place Martín Miranda from Argentina; 3rd place Rustam Yusopov from Russia
  • In Category 3, 1st place: Ville Ainali from Finland; 2nd place Daniel Secchi from Argentina; 3rd place Anssi Mattus from Finland
  • In Category 4, 1st place: Sebastian Kiehne from Germany; 2nd place Zdenek Dvorak from Czech Republic; 3rd place Xiaoping Wu from U.S.A
  • In Category 5, 1st place: Alvin Chia from Singapore; 2nd place Gorka Pérez Gómez from Spain; 3rd place Teddy Fontaine from France
  • In Category 6, 1st place: Jay from Canada; 2nd place Sip Jan from Czech Republic; 3rd place Gregory Zhukov from Russia
  • In Category 7, 1st place: Nigel Kojimoto from U.S.A; 2nd place Matt Lanigan from U.S.A; 3rd place Devish from Brunei Darussalam

The [ext] 4th edition had 526 participants. The country cup winner was Singapore, followed by Finland and United States.

  • In Category 1, 1st place: Zhou Xiang from Singapore; 2nd place Lucian Corlan from Romania; 3rd place changlong wu from China. The country cup winner was Canada.
  • In Category 2, 1st place: James Lee from Singapore and Alvin Ng from Singapore. The country cup winner was Finland.
  • In Category 3, 1st place: Kalle Timperi from Finland and Lim EnSheng? from Singapore. The country cup winner was Germany.
  • In Category 4, 1st place: Anastasiya from Russia and Jaime Alberto Londońo Ciro from Colombia. The country cup winner was United States.
  • In Category 5, 1st place: Victor Belkin from Russia and Ulaş Önder from Turkey. The country cup winner was Turkey.
  • In Category 6, 1st place: Desmond Ling from Brunei; 2nd place André Geraldes from Brazil; 3rd place Grace Angela Batalla from Chile.
  • In Category 7, 1st place: Jessica Savoie from U.S.A; 2nd place Antti Niemi from Finland; 3rd place Güngör Erseymen from Turkey. The country cup winner was United States.
