Sensei's Tournament Library

Sensei's Tournament Library (short: STL) is intended as an Organiser's Handbook for the annual European Go Congress (EGC).

It may perhaps develop to be useful for other tournaments at some later date.

The EGC is held in a different country each year and, with 32 member countries in 2003, it is rare for one organising team to host more than one event. Thus each year a new team discovers how to arrange the event without the benefit of previous years' experiences.

At the 2003 European Go Federation AGM in St. Petersburg, it was suggested that an organiser's handbook would be a valuable tool for each new team. However in practice no committee would ever get the job of writing such a document finished. Therefore the alternative of a wiki manual that all Go players could contribute to was suggested. This is that wiki.

Just as in a bricks-and-mortar library, you can look for information on various subjects listed under starting points and find pages in the master database index.

You can get help and learn how to use Wiki.

STL is a Wiki Wiki Web site and as such can be edited by everyone! You are encouraged to contribute to existing articles and add new ones (don't try this with a pen in your local library). Your wisdom will then be available to all subsequent users. You can add comments and correct mistakes if you see them, add explanations etc.

Since we are in cyberspace, there is no need to be quiet! Discussion is welcome, whether related to one particular page (see lower down on this page), or generally about the entire project.

It is hoped that contributions to the handbook will come from new organisers as they learn, from experienced organisers after the event and from customers, whether amateur Go players, visiting professionals or non-playing guests. If you have seen a gap in a previous tournament, please point out the gap. And if you can suggest a solution to eliminate that gap (and thus protect the cutting point?) this is even more welcome.

Note that unlike Sensei's Library proper, this wiki site wants to read in clear instruction handbook style and so names and opinions on the main article pages are mostly out of place. Where an author/contributor is uncertain or a topic is controversial use the discussion page attached to each and every main article page. The name of the discussion page is the name of the main article followed with Discussion, thus this page can be discussed at /Discussion. The header of each article page includes a Discuss page link and that of the Discussion page a View page link.
