Winter Go
Wintergo (dead link) is (was?) an international go camp in the Netherlands organized between Christmas and New Year (from the 27th of December until the 31st of December). It is the counterpart of Zomergo (summer go), which is organized in the summer. This year is the fourth edition of Wintergo and it is bigger than ever before with room for up to 100 participants. If you would like to participate you can come by for a day or stay for a longer time.
Wintergo is located in a former scouting building, which is presently used as a small congress center. The building lies at the border of the beautiful "Overasseltse en Hatertse Vennen", a beautiful natural reserve. The area of about 520 hectares consists of several meres within a forest with oak trees, heather and picturesque farming fields and pastures with grazing cattle. The area is ideal for taking a stroll or exploration by bike. If the weather permits it, you can also go ice skating on the meres.
Wintergo is first of all a place for gamelovers. There are the go tournament and go workshops, of course. However, many other games are played as well, including the famous games: Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico and Carcassonne, as wel as classics, such as Titan. Other mind sports played at wintergo include Shogi, Xiangqi(Chinese Chess) and othello.
Wintergo is very friendly to young families. Special activities are planned for children. This includes a simultanous game, an exploration quest outdoors, a go movie and a workshop. Children who would like to participate in the tournament enter the main tournament, they can however choose to play on 19x19 or on 13x13.
You are welcome to join WinterGo. It is well suited for international participants. At present German, Belgium and Dutch participants have registered. If you register before the 1th of December you receive a discount of 10 euro.
