Sofia's Mega Rengo

"Sofia's Mega Rengo" is a huge correspondence team Go game being played on OGS, to celebrate the long-awaited introduction of rengo and team Go functionality to the server. It was organised by Italian former OGS moderator, streamer, youtuber and simultaneous correspondence record holder Sofia and began on 8 February 2022.

Two teams, initially of fifty players each, are playing on a 25x25 board. The game began with a full range of skill level, from 7d down to 25k. The time control is a simple five days / move, with pausing on weekends. In May 2023, 22 players remain on the black team and 17 on the white, fewer than half of the original members.

After the 15th move, the game was mysteriously paused, due to the effect of correspondence vacation time. The players were forced to wait for an unresponsive member to play the obvious move for the white team. His inactivity resulted in the pause continuing for over a month. Due to frustration over this delay, around 10% of the players eventually withdrew. The 17th move was finally played by reliable team member MooToYouToo, very soon after the end of the pause.

A second long delay occurred on the 35th move. From May 9, three players of the white team timed out when called to play their move, resulting in the game stalling for two weeks. Once reliable player martin3141 was able to take the wheel, he took his turn quickly.
