Ondrej Silt

After having spent 3 years as an insei at the Nihon Kiin in Tokyo, Japan, he is currently one of four 6-Dan players in the Czech Republic.

His talent was spotted by Hans Pietsch at an amateur world cup (in which he placed 4th) at the age of 12.

He scored an 11th place in The ING Memorial European cup, after scoring an overall win in the 2004/2005 European Cup. In 2010, he placed 5th in the World Amateur Go Championship with 6 wins. He also played in the 2006 WAGC, scoring 6 wins and placing 8th.

In 2014, the European Go Federation did not allow him to participate in the 1st European Pro Qualification 2014. According to a letter by president Martin Stiassny the measure is a consequence of a ban by the Korean Baduk Association on Silt and that having him as the first European professional could cause friction between the associations. The measure generated some controversy among European top players.
