Sh Suhyup Bank Navy vs. Women's Pro-Win Competition
Sh Suhyup Bank Navy vs. Women's Pro-Win Competition is sponsored by Suhyup (or Shinhan) Bank. It ran for over a month from 8 Dec 2024 to 12 Jan 2025, but only two days per week. It comprised six 9p male professionals who served in the Korean Navy against six leading female professionals, with only Choi Jung not playing.
It was broadcast live from the K-Baduk Studio. Caster Kim Gyu-ri will host, and former Navy players Ahn Hyeong-jun? 5p and Park Gyeong-geun? 6p will provide commentary.
It has been described as the pride of the Korean Navy, which about 50 professionals have served in, and the best female players.
Format
The format is win-and-continue, but each round is a best-of-three match. The time control is very fast, with 1 minute initial time 20 seconds per move increment, using Fischer time. This enabled each three-game match to be played on one day.
Prize money is 30 million won ($US20,450) to the winning team and 18 million won ($US12,000) to the runner-up team. There is also 1 million won (~$US700) for a player who wins three consecutive matches, and an additional 1 million won for every consecutive match win after that.
