Orange County Go Tournament

    Keywords: Tournament

The Orange County Go Tournament was hosted by the Orange County Go Club and the UC Irvine Go Club, both of Irvine, California.

The Tournament:

The 2008 Orange County Go Tournament was a two-day, five-round, AGA-rated, Swiss-McMahon event with handicap sections and an open section. To participate in the open section, which served as an Ing North American and a World Mind Sports Games qualifying tournament, players had to be 4 Dan or above, and the TD would only make a final decision about who would play in the open section at the time of pairing.

Time & Place:

Saturday, May 31st, 9 am to 7 pm (with sign-in at 8:20 am), Sunday, June 1st, 12:30 pm to 7 pm, at the South Coast Chinese Culture Center, 9 Truman, Irvine CA 92620.

Pre-registration was highly encouraged. Unlike the Cotsen Tournament, the room was limited, so on-site registration was possible but subject to the availability of space. On-site registration after 9:10 AM would not allow playing in the first round.

The registration fee was $25 for adults, $10 for student and youth. To register by mail, one could send a check, their name, rank (Dan/Kyu), telephone number, e-mail and AGA number if they had one, to Kevin Chao, PO BOX 1191, Lake Forest, CA 92609. The deadline for mail-in registration was May 25th.

Day 1 Round 1: 9:45 am Round 2: 1 pm Round 3: 4 pm Day 2 Round 4: 12:30 pm Round 5: 3:30 pm Awards: 6:30 pm
