Open Study Room

The [ext] Open Study Room (OSR) is an online Go community where people play, study, discuss, teach and learn Go in a friendly environment. Players of all ranks are welcome to share their Go knowledge and passion, to ask stronger users to review their games, or to answer a specific question.

Leagues

Believing that playing long and serious games with a review at the end is a very good way to improve at go, the Open Study Room runs a [ext] league system to encourage players to do so. Since both activity and skills are rewarded, everyone can enjoy playing there. League games can be played on KGS or OGS; they count for points in the league. There are multiple leagues, and the highest scorers qualify for prizes such as reviews and teaching games with high dan or even professional players.

A community

OSR is 100% free and community-driven and is run by a team of volunteers.

It has its own forum and a Discord server to allow people to socialise, review games with audio, create and solve tsumego, discuss the games of pros and one another, set up events, take decisions by vote and engage with one another in other activities.

Study

The Open Study Room is a place to study Go. Reviewing league games is strongly encouraged and Discord allows easy audio review.

Thanks to the support of its [ext] teachers, OSR set up more or less three teaching events per month since its creation (see the [ext] OSR calendar).

Website

OSR has its own website running a league system, a forum and a blog. It is powered by django and coded in Python. All code is free and open source (GNU GPL) and everyone is welcome to report bugs or help implement new features in [ext] this github.

The idea of this coding project is to build a tool for any online Go community to organise and set up a league system.
