Igo Myoden
Igo Myoden (囲碁妙伝) is a book written by Gennan Inseki and published in 1852 in Osaka, with further editions in 1964 and in 1991.
This book is notable as the first Go publication in Japan with extensive commentaries by a top player. Before this book, it was customary to publish game records with no comments at al.
There is a digitized version of all four volumes at the Waseda University site.
1991 edition (two volumes, published by Kyoikusha) contains his commentaries in modern Japanese combined with additional comments by Takagi Shoichi. ISBNs:978-4315510775 and 978-4315510782.
In his Killer of Go, Sakata Eio reports a story from Igo Myoden. Wakayama Rikkan, a disciple of House Inoue, discovered a move that both players (Yasui Senchi and Honinbo Retsugen) didn't see.
