[Diagram]
Black plays first

B1 removes the main aji in the corner.
Later, W4 - B5 is sente.
The result is +9 (for Black).

[Diagram]
White plays first

B8 fills at white+circle.
There is no unique solution, but I think that W1 is psychologically best. B2 is not that obvious.
Next, W3 - B8 takes kikashi in the corner.

White plays first (ii)

Now, B1 is tesuji, preventing ko or seki and allowing B3.[1]

White plays first (iii)

Later, W1 - B2 is sente.

The result is +4.

So this is White's 5-point sente.

In the game, both players overlooked it.

[Diagram]
Ko or seki

B5 takes at black+circle.
If B1 hanes, B3 should normally be at a. W4 is immune to immediate capture, because of snapback.

[Diagram]
Ko or seki (ii)

Now Black can make a seki at a or make a picnic ko for White at b.
