Color

The term color refers to the color of the go stones, typically black and white.

Deciding on color

Unlike in chess, in go the player playing the black stones starts.

Before the game a decision must be reached on who will play with black stones or who will play with white stones. When the decision is made, the player are said to take their corresponding color.

Tournament systems usually include a method to assign the players to a color.

Sometimes nigiri is used to decide who takes black.

Multi-color go

Multi-color go allows to extend go to more players.

Game theory

Color is the set of states which an intersection on the go board can have. Normally this set contains the elements {black, white, empty}.
