White has cut at W1

Standard

Normally we capture the cutting stone but here White would save four stonesin sente and capture two in the process.

Ko - resolved

In the game, W3 skillfully creates a ko up to W7. Then B8 takes the ko first, W9 is the ko threat and B10 resolves the ko immediately.

Suppose B2 responds, then W3 recaptures. Whichever Black's threat comes next (conveniently chosen as a big point B4 here), White enlarges the ko at W5. Black can hardly fight this ko and will (eventually) cover at B6. White can then connect with W7 at black+circle in sente because below there's a liberty race going on.

Eventually White can return to Black's threat with W9 while having greatly enhanced her strength in the upper right.
