Asahi

Asahi (朝日,アサヒ,sometimes 旭) is a Japanese name meaning "morning sun".

It is most known as one of the major newspapers sponsoring Go and other events, Asahi Shinbun. The newspaper has many related media and education companies such as TV Asahi, Asahi Shinbun Publishing and Asahi Culture Center.

The name is so popular in Japan and any industry has one or more companies named Asahi unrelated to the newspaper, such as Asahi Beer (アサヒビール) and Asahi Kasei (旭化成, chemical company). There is even a book publisher named Asahi Press (朝日出版社) and a low-culture magazine Weekly Asahi Geino (週刊アサヒ芸能), with no relations to the newspaper.
