Super Group

The Super Group is a selection of the entrants to the main tournament who:

• Are 4 dan or stronger
• Commit themselves to play in all 10 rounds and will sign a form to confirm this
• Start with one more McMahon point than other 4 dans.
• Might play with different rules (Japanese) to the bulk of the main tournament entrants (who use Ing rules).

The Super Group consists of 32 players:

• The top 24 European Players of the EGF Rating List
• Up to 2 players invited by the EGF.
• 2 players ( at least 4 dan level) selected by the organizing committee for instance: improving young players, local top players, or unknown players of considerable playing strength (e.g.from the Far East).
• Up to 4 strongest players from "the East" with proven strength in international or high level national tournaments.

Selection of the Super Group is a responsibility of the Rules and Rating Commission of the EGF.

In Villach 2007 the Super Group was 34 player. This is possible if there are more than 64 players 4 dan and up willing to play Super Group.
