Hello, my name is Lucas. I started playing Go as a child, having learned the rules in Chinese school and playing casually with my dad. I spent some time on-and-off playing 9x9 on Yahoo, which developed strong skills in fighting but none in whole-board thinking. I decided to get serious about the game in the summer of 2010, when I started discussing the mathematical dimensions of the game with interested classmates.

In June of 2010, I made my first account on KGS (spookas) and landed at 7-kyu in my first month. After a game review with the famous dsaun and a couple reads through Otake's essential book on opening, I improved to 4-kyu within half a year.

I was on-and-off again for the next year, mainly playing the blitz games, but slowly wormed my way up to 3-kyu anyway. In June 2012, I attended the Canadian Go Open, meeting such luminaries as Guo Juan, Andy Liu, and Pak Seung-hyeon for the first time. It inspired me to pursue shodan in earnest. I started a new account (LH) with the goal of playing more seriously and pensively, studying harder, and avoiding blitz games entirely. I've been partly successful, but old habits die hard.

Outside of Go, I'm an underemployed math teacher, graphic designer/screenprinter, and musician. If you have a not-for-profit Go event/document that you'd like some nice design for, contact me on KGS or by email (ukelucas at gmail), and I'll work for free if my schedule allows.
