Velobici/ Discussion

maruseru: In your entry from the 2002-08-27, you say that you contacted Yang Yilun about lessons for your son. If you don't mind, I've got a few questions about that. Were these lessons conducted in person or over the Internet (KGS etc.)? How many hours per week did the lessons take? Also, how strong was your son when the lessons started?

I'm trying to decide whether to get lessons as well and would appreciate any information about that.

Velobici: The lessons take place on KGS (he teaches on IGS as well). The weekly lessons are two hours long. Each hour is comprised of one game followed by review. Games typically run to about 80 moves. When my son started he was about 15k. He reached 3d at the 2004 US Go Congress. I warmly recommend professional lessons.

Herman Hiddema:

Hi velobici,

Recently, you have been making a lot of edits that have a hostile feel to them, especially towards Bass. They are not downright abusive or anything, but to me it just feels like you have some sort of grudge or dislike towards Bass (and maybe toward myself). Perhaps because of the heated debates around SOS/SOMS and related matters. If this is a mistake, my apologies.

The reason I am writing this message, is because in my personal experience, you have always been one of the more active and constructive editors on Sensei's, someone I really respected for the hard work they put into improving Sensei's. I care deeply about Sensei's, I think it is one of the greatest resources available to the western go community. As such, your contributions always gave me a very high opinion of you. But with the recent edits, I just feel exasperated at all the nitpicking and discussions and hostility.

If I have offended you in the past, this was certainly never my intention, and I apologize if I did. I may have a different outlook on some recently discussed issues, but that does not mean I do not respect your opinion. If I disagree with something you wrote, it is never meant against you personally, it is just a different opinion. So I wanted to ask you, can we please get back to what is really important? I think we both want to see Sensei's improved.

Regards,
--Herman.
