Painful

    Keywords: Go term

Chinese: -
Japanese: 辛い tsurai
Korean: -

"Painful" is frequently encountered in English go literature. It refers to being forced to play a move that you know is inferior because you screwed up earlier and now your opponent is punishing your previous sub-optimal play.

Discussion:

Comment: Inferior by comparison to what? Painful is English, not a go term.

Tapir: Well, to me it seems that bullying / the terrible "painful" life that results from that / the kind of weakness that makes you susceptible to it are not enough appreciated as concepts. I understood the ijime discussion that way. It may lead to a bad case of definitionism but here it grew together from two sides, one mentioning tsurai as underappreciated term and another wondering about what was the japanese equivalent every time we read "painful" in a translated game review.
