The Impenetrable Barrier
Keywords: Culture & History
Played May 16, 17, 18, 1842
White: Inoue Genan Inseki
Black: Honinbo Shuwa
In this, the second of three games between these players (Shuwa having won two years prior to this game), Genan was out to show he should be the Meijin. He played a skillful game but for a misreading at the end of the game, in which Genan tried an invasion which cost 5 points (thereby losing by 6 points instead of 1).
With this game, Genan realised he would never be Meijin but always a Jun Meijin.
