Teaching Customs

When a Teacher (Sensei) teaches in a book or online, there are some customs and practices that are used.

  • Letters are used on blank points to indicate choices for the next move.
  • Numbers are used to indicate a sequence of moves.
  • Triangles are used to mark important stones and sometimes blank points.
  • Squares are used to mark sets of blank points that are territory or might be.
  • A circle is often used to mark the current move online.

These tools are available in the KGS client software CGoban2.
