Push the enemy towards your thickness/Examples

Example 1

[Diagram]
Takagawa (Black) - Kitani

B1 pushes White towards Black's thickness.

Note that White does not play the two space extension, but the keima, following the proverb, Do not approach strong stones.

Example 2

[Diagram]
Same game, later

B1 protects the corner, pushing White towards Black's thickness, even though the resulting White group is not particularly weak. Although there are other factors involved, such as the weakness of Black's large knight's extension and the open skirt of any Black moyo on the top side, a pincer would be a bit too close to Black's thickness.
